What is asworn translation?

A sworn translation is a translation done in Spain by a sworn translator appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The sworn translator certifies that the translation is a faithful and complete translation of the original. A sworn translator can only certify a translation into or from the language for which he or she was appointed. But beware, the sworn translator does not certify that the original document is valid, true…! For that, there are other types of certifications. See our Frequently Asked Questions section for more information.

AT TRADUTEMA WE ARE UNIQUE

After 20 years dedicated to the world of translation, Javier Pardo and Mélanie Delaplace decided to create Tradutema.com. Between them, they have accumulated many years of experience in large international translation companies, such as Lionbridge, BGS, Mendez, LH, WHP… in various aspects of this profession: project manager, localization engineer, tester… In addition, Javier is a Sworn Translator of English appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2000. Thanks to this knowledge and experience, as well as to their close collaborators translators, they can put the most advanced translation technologies at the service of traditional sworn translation to offer a fast, quality service at a competitive price.

If you're looking for a sworn translation, until now you only had two options:

Looking for a sworn translator directly, which has the following drawbacks:

  • A lot of time is wasted phoning every translator
  • There are many busy, unavailable, sworn translators who are no longer or never practiced as a sworn translator (sworn translators are appointed by the ministry for life, so the vast majority who appear on official lists are no longer or never practiced as a sworn translator; and at one time they gave the title to all those who finished their translation studies)
  • It is tedious to compare prices between several translators, waiting for different quotes from each of them, and to compare what each service includes.
  • It’s risky to entrust a job to a person we have no reference to. We don’t know if the translator is meeting the deadlines, the agreed budget, etc: we put ourselves entirely in the hands of a complete stranger.

Or, go through an agency, which:

  • It’s a lot more expensive.
  • You do not have a personalized treatment, in case of doubts about procedures, paperwork, etc.
  • Deadlines are often longer.
